Matt Meyers has been an integral part of the Global music scene for over 14 years now. He has ran record labels, Management companies, a Studio Complex, production companies, a string of successful Club nights and has still found time under his many various guises to become one of the hottest Producers and writers in Dance music and a key A&R guy behind some of the UK’s biggest Dance smashes!! Matt has just been signed again with his brother as 'Soulshaker' and this time to AATW/Universal.
Matt Meyers (now 32) comes from a town called Oxted in Surrey where he attended St Mary’s School where like both of his brothers, he was voted into a school Captain Position by his fellow students.
Matt was bought up in a world of music due to the fact that his dad 'Dave Meyers' was a successful songwriter and music business entrepreneur during the 70s, 80s & 90s.
Dave Meyers (signed as a writer to Peer Music) wrote hits for acts like the Temptations, Cloudagh Rogers, The Foundations and Elaine Page and also discovered the legendary Billy Ocean who went on to do great things like babysitting for Matt and his brothers during their childhood hehehe.
In the early nineties and at the age of 16, Matt attended East Surrey College to pursue his passion for design and creativity. He enrolled in a BTEC Diploma course in Architecture which he passed. Throughout the 2 Years that Matt spent in college, he got totally sucked into the early Rave scene and became obsessed with Dance Pop music and the Dance/Club scene as a whole. For the next 3 Years during the period 1990 to 1993, Matt was out raving nearly every weekend and moved through the early Hardcore & Jungle scene following Rave organizations like The Orange, Elevation, Fusion, Sterns, Telepathy, Rain Dance & Seduction etc and then finally finding his true home in the World of House Music by again visiting club nights like Peach, Club 4 Life, Satellite Club, Legends, Ministry Of Sound and the legendary Club UK.
Matt bought his first set of record decks at the age of 18 and soon realized a talent for DJing. In 1994 Matt decided that he wanted to start throwing his own parties and so hired out a venue with friends called the Surrey Hills Hotel in Dorking. The first night was a massive success and paved the way for a string of successful club nights. Matt soon started promoting the now legendary parties 'Thunderground & Essence' & during the Nineties these club nights went on to become some of the biggest & best raves outside of London and also paved the way for Matts successful DJing career which has seen him hold residencies for Decorum @ The Ministry of Sounds 'Frisky' nights, Clockwork Orange @ Camden Palace and the Turnmills etc, Naughty at The Aquarium, Pacha and The Ministry in Amsterdam as well as DJing at clubs all over the World including Eden, Es Paradis & Space in Ibiza etc. Matt has gone on to DJ alongside such names as Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Joey Negro, Seamus Haji, Marshall Jefferson, Jeremy Healy, Judge Jules, Paul Hillyer, John Ulysees, Miss Behavin, Danielle Davioli, Alex P, Masters at Work, Rhythm Masters, Tony De Vit, Alistair Whitehead etc.
Matt then, after gaining some very valuable experience through promoting his Thunderground & Essence nights, decided to start promoting Club nights in London and went on to co-promote the Ministry Of Sound with Decorum on the Frisky nights, the Camden Palace, Aquarium, The Rock, The Emporium and many more of Londons top night clubs.
Matt spent most of his time during the Nineties, whilst not promoting his club nights, networking with other DJs & Record producers and teaching himself to produce & engineer his own dance music tracks in his home studio. Matt then adopted a freelance talent scout position for himself and would take both his & his producers tracks and pitch them to Major record label A&R guys to try and establish deals. Matt soon, through the endeavors of his talent scout position, managed to build up a solid network of producers and a mass of record company A&R contacts. In about 1997 Matt soon realized that he wanted to move away from promoting club nights and move directly into the record industry. Matt then took his club brand 'Thunderground' and turned it into a record licensing company that specialized in getting International deals for UK based record producers and record labels. This company did very well and Matt was soon looking for bigger premises to expand things from. In Jan 2000, Matt's company & family took over ownership of the world famous recording studio complex at London Bridge 'The Vineyard' (previously known as The Hit Factory through Pete Waterman’s success) which they totally refurbished into an ultra modern studio complex. There were 5 studios at the Vineyard complex which Matt filled with his main production teams all of who have now enjoyed massive success. The Vineyard studio’s soon became one of the most competitive Production companies in the UK, and was specializing in writing & producing for High Profile Pop Acts and mainstream artists, as well as carrying on with its roots of Dance music production. It was through running the Vineyard that Matt made close business contacts with lots of the biggest Artist management companies about and got drawn into the more mainstream side of the industry. At this time Matt attracted ESP to leave Merlyn in Sweden and join the Vineyard as well as taking on Tony Briscoe of Beverly Knights 'Shoulda Woulda Coulda' etc etc.
Through all of Matt’s experience in the music Industry, he has gained a vast and in depth knowledge of how the music industry works. He is well versed in most areas of the industry including contractual law, Licensing, Publishing, Marketing, Promotion, creative & A&R. Over the last 6 years Matt has been managing top writers, producers & Artists and has been behind stacks of Hits as both a producer and an A&R guy. In the last four months alone Matt's new company has signed six of its acts to Major Labels or large independent label including Fierce Angels/AATW, Data/Ministry Of Sound, Boss Records, AATW/Universal, Gusto/Gut Records, Positiva/EMI and Sony/BMG.
As a producer, Matt teams up with his bother 'Warren' to work under many various production guises to include Benson 'n' Hedges (Cayenne/Virgin), Eternal Soul (Slip n Slide), Club 4 Life (fierce Angels/AATW), 45 FLAT (Data), The Audiofreaks (Audiofreaks) & one of the hottest production teams in the world of dance/pop music and Soulshaker (Gusto/AATW/Universal) which is the name they he had what was voted as being the second biggest dance record of 2005 in all the main charts with his ‘Hypnotic Erotic Games’ track.. Between these aforementioned production names Matt has enjoyed over ten No1 dance chart hits and around thirty top 40 dance chart entries. Matt has also done stacks of remixes under these various names and in the last few weeks alone has remixed Judge Jules, Ultra Nate, Martha Wash & Ce Ce Peniston.
At the moment Matt & his team are solely concentrating on building up their new production/management company called Audio-Freaks which specialises in producing quality Pop Dance / House Music as well as managing mainstream artists and producers alike. In its first Year (2005) Audio-freaks became one of the most successful dance/Pop music production companies in the UK and are now the subject of lots of Major Record Label attention.
